January 2017 Meeting Minutes
MINUTES
A motion to approve the minutes from the November Meeting with no corrections was made by Deb Hamling and seconded by Shawna Hilbert.
From now on, meeting invitations will be attached to an Outlook Meeting Invite. Simply reply with Accept, Tentative or Decline. This way, it will show up on your calendar as a reminder and also helps us with a head count.
TREASURER’S REPORT The Treasurer’s Report from November and December, 2016 was presented by Kathryn Ackman (attached). A motion to approve the Treasurer’s report with no corrections was made by Deb Hamling and seconded by Mike Ogilvie.
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS AND LEGISLATIVE
Scott gave a Legislature Update on bills currently being reviewed. Please see attached Legislative Summary from Chad Richter at Jackson Lewis.
SCHOLARSHIP
Scott also mentioned a $500 Scholarship CAHRA Scholarship. Eligible students must be employed or have a family member who is employed with a company that is a member of the Columbus Area Human Resources Association. Students must be majoring in a Business or Human Resources program of study. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded. Please see attachment for additional information.
MEMBERSHIP
If you have not had a chance to renew your CAHRA membership, please do so ASAP. A Membership Renewal form is attached. If you are a SHRM Member, no fees are due; otherwise, membership is $50. Please return renewal forms to Kathryn Ackman, CAHRA c/o NPPD, PO Box 499, Columbus NE 68602.
As an incentive to attend CAHRA Meetings and join a committee, every time you attend a CAHRA meeting your name will go into the hat and if you participate on a committee, your name will be put in twice. All names will go into a drawing for a free State Conference Registration.
Members are encouraged to bring a guest to the monthly meetings. Guests who attend three CAHRA meetings throughout the year will automatically become a CAHRA member for the remainder of the year at no additional charge.
CERTIFICATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Bryn presented certificates at the end of the meeting for those in attendance who need to record their CEU’s. Deb will send out certificates for meetings attended in 2016.

PROGRAM
“Hot Topics in Benefits for 2017” was presented by Cara Kirsch from Silverstone Group. Cara’s very informative presentation focused on the following:
- Building Strategies To Communicate To Our Employees
- Reference Based Pricing
- Telemedicine
- Accountable Care Organization Update
