January 2018 Meeting Minutes

    CAHRA Monthly Meeting – January 18, 2018

     

    There were 20 people in attendance at the January meeting; 19 members and 1 guest.  The meeting was held at Valentino’s Restaurant in Columbus. 

    PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Presented by Vice President, Shawna Hilbert

    • Shawna started off the meeting by having everyone go around the room and introduce themselves.

    • CAHRA sponsored a Coat Drive and it was a huge success!  190 new and/or gently used coats were collected from various industries and donated to Simon House. 
    • CAHRA will continue to do Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity.  If you’d like to volunteer, please let Amanda Henry know. 
    • SHRM Leadership Conference will be held in Lincoln January 25th and 26th.  We have 4 CAHRA members planning to attend and it’s always a great event. 
    • Nebraska SHRM State Conference is scheduled for August 23rd and 24th at the La Vista Conference Center.  Make plans now to attend. 
    • As was done in 2017, we will continue to offer an incentive to increase participation.  Every time you attend a CAHRA Meeting, serve as a Committee Chair or as an Officer, your name will go into a drawing to be held later on in the year.  If your name is drawn, CAHRA will pay your SHRM State Conference Registration fee if your employer will not pay for it.    

       

      LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE REPORT – Scott Messersmith

    • Legislative Update from Chad Richter was given by Scott Messersmith.  Current hot topics are Wage Garnishments, Work Comp, Exempt Social Security and Retirement Income from taxation, Paid Medical Leave and Rest Periods.  (See attached for details)

       

      SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT – Heidi

    Scholarship Applications are due March 30th. The scholarship application and further information will come out at the beginning of February.   Area schools have been notified.

     

    MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT - Theresa and Nicole

    • Members are encouraged to bring a guest to the monthly meetings.  We will continue to allow those that attend three meetings as a guest to enroll for free for the rest of the year. 

       

      PROGRAMS COMMITTEE REPORT – Jon and Kara

    • A list of 2018 CAHRA Programs through June was distributed at the meeting. 
    • If you have a suggestion for a topic for future programs, please contact Jon Rauner at jrauner@columbushydraulics.com.
    • A subcommittee will be formed to discuss promotion of CAHRA. 
    • Todays’ program, Controlling Healthcare Costs, was presented by Cara Kirsch from Silverstone Group
    • The program for February will be Legal Updates presented by Chad Richter. 

    CERTIFICATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Andra

    In order to retain your certification, members are responsible for entering their own certification credits for SHRM and HRCI.  Andra provided certificates at the October meeting for those in attendance.

     

    SOCIAL MEDIA AND PUBLIC RELATIONS - Kristel

    No report.
