July 2017 Meeting Minutes

    CAHRA Monthly Meeting – July 20, 2017

    There were 16 people in attendance at the July meeting; 15 members and 1 guest. 

    MINUTES

    A motion to approve the minutes from the July Meeting with no corrections was made by Tammy Orender and seconded by Jon Rauner.  

    TREASURER’S REPORTKathryn Ackmann

    The Treasurer’s Report from June was presented by Kathryn Ackmann (attached).  

    PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Amanda Henry

    • Amanda showed the SHRM Commercial at the July meeting.  It’s available on U-Tube if anyone would like to check it out. 
    • CAHRA continues to work on obtaining a badge certification for Aging Workforce through the SHRM Foundation.
    • Reminder that registration is now open for the Nebraska SHRM State Conference which is scheduled for August 24-25 in La Vista.   For more details, visit http://www.shrm-ne.org/Conference.  CAHRA member, Chris Cromer’s name was drawn as the winner of the paid admission to the  SHRM Conference!  Congratulations Chris!
    • Habitat for Humanity was July 15.  Thanks to Deb Hamling for taking treats.  Photos will be posted on the SHRM Website. 
    • The topic for the meeting in November will be Time Management.  This will be the CAHRA “Social” and will be held November 16th from 4-5pm.   Make plans now to attend the CAHRA Social in November and then stick around for the Downtown Stroll which is also that night.   Stay tuned for more details. 
    • The CAHRA Facebook page is now “live”.  Please send information and ideas to post on the page to Kristel Hall at khall@fnni.com .   We encourage all members to “follow us” on Facebook!
    • The $1,200 Scholarship toward fees associated with the on-Line classes through UNO to complete the SHRM CP Exam was awarded to Annie Baum.  .  This Scholarship is for CAHRA Members only.  The online program begins September, 2017. 
    • CAHRA now has a generic email address.  It is CAHRA2017@gmail.com.
    • A survey will be sent out with the minutes regarding “The aging workforce”.  Please take a moment to complete the survey and send responses to Michelle Meyer before the next meeting.

    GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS AND LEGISLATIVE

    Updated summary provided by SHRM State Legislative Chair, Chad Richter, is attached.

    SCHOLARSHIP

    If anyone has the SHRM Learning System that was purchased a few years ago, let a CAHRA Officer know. 

    MEMBERSHIP

    No report.   

    Reminder:  As an incentive to attend CAHRA Meetings and join a committee, every time you attend a CAHRA meeting your name will go into the hat and if you are an officer or serve as  a committee chairperson, your name will be put in as well.  Other opportunities, such as the quiz, may be offered during the year.  All names will go into a drawing and if your name is drawn, CAHRA will pay your State Conference Registration fee if your employer will not pay for it. 

    Members are encouraged to bring a guest to the monthly meetings.  Guests who attend three CAHRA meetings throughout the year will automatically become a CAHRA member for the remainder of the year at no additional charge.  

    CERTIFICATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    In order to retain your certification, members are responsible for entering their own certification credits for SHRM and HRCI.  Andra provided certificates at the July meeting for those in attendance.

    SOCIAL MEDIA AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

    No report.

     PROGRAM

    Charlotte Worley from Nebraska Workforce spoke for a few minutes regarding soft skills training in the workforce, especially for new hires.  If you feel there is a need for training or want more information, please contact Charlotte at 402-564-7160. 

    The program, “Managing The Engagement Cycle” was presented by Josh Erickson from Team Concepts.
