October 2017 Meeting Minutes

    CAHRA Monthly Meeting – October 19, 2017

    There were 20 people in attendance at the October meeting; 17 members and 3 guests.  The meeting was held at Heritage House in Columbus. 

    MINUTES – Michelle Meyer, Secretary

    There was a correction to the September minutes.  The minutes stated 14 members and 4 guests.  It was actually 15 members and 3 guests.  It was also reported in the September minutes that the July Treasurer’s Report was presented.  The Treasurer’s Report was actually for July and August. 

    A motion to approve the minutes from the September Meeting with the above noted corrections was made by Scott Messersmith and seconded by Jon Rauner.

    TREASURER’S REPORTKathryn Ackman, Treasurer

    The Treasurer’s Report from September was presented by Kathryn Ackmann (attached).  

    PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Amanda Henry, President

    • Amanda reported that the CAHRA Facebook page is up to 19 followers.  Please go to the CAHRA Facebook page, follow it and share it so that we can building up our followers. 
    • 2018 Officers – We are looking for Volunteers to fill CAHRA Officer roles, in particular, we are looking for a new Treasurer and someone to assist Jon Rauner in lining up Sponsorships and Speakers for the CAHRA Meetings.   Although we have several officers who are willing to stay on, if you are interested in a particular role, current officers are willing to step aside.  If you have an interest in getting more involved, this is a great way to network and do just that. Please contact one of the current officers if you are interested.  Elections will be held at the November meeting. 
    • Amanda recently attended the State Council Strategic Planning Session and announced that they are looking for volunteers to be on the Council.  Please let Amanda know if you are interested. 
    • CAHRA Social – The next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 16th from 4-5pm at Duster’s Restaurant.  Mike Henke of Mike Henke, Inc., will speak to the group on Time Management from 4:00 – 4:30 followed by a Networking Social from 4:30 – 5:00.  All in attendance are invited to then make their way to Downtown Columbus for the Christmas Stroll sponsored by the Downtown Business Association from 5-8pm.
    • There will be no CAHRA meeting in December. 

       

      GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS AND LEGISLATIVE – Scott Messersmith

    SCHOLARSHIP

    No report.

    MEMBERSHIP

    No report.   

    Members are encouraged to bring a guest to the monthly meetings.  Guests who attend three CAHRA meetings throughout the year will automatically become a CAHRA member for the remainder of the year at no additional charge.  

    CERTIFICATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    In order to retain your certification, members are responsible for entering their own certification credits for SHRM and HRCI.  Andra provided certificates at the October meeting for those in attendance.

    SOCIAL MEDIA AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

    No report.

    FREE MEAL NEXT TIME

    Scott Messersmith’s name was drawn for the free meal at the next meeting.

    PROGRAM

    The topics for the meeting today were Aging Workforce, presented by Gail Sutter, and Transition to Medicare, which was presented by Karla Wilson and Vera Schneider from UNICO.  Jessica Buresh from Neighbor Works Northeast Nebraska whose Mission is To develop housing opportunities, empower individuals and families, and revitalize and strengthen communities also gave a quick overview of the services they provide.
