September 2018 Meeting Minutes

    CAHRA Monthly Meeting – September 20, 2018

    There were 17 members and 3 guests in attendance at the September meeting.  The meeting was held at Valentino’s Restaurant in Columbus. 

    TREASURER’S REPORT – Doris Wemhoff, Treasurer

    • The Treasurer report for August is attached. 


      PRESIDENT’S REPORTAmanda Henry, President

    • A motion was made to approve the minutes from the July meeting by Kristel Hall and seconded by Scott Messersmith.   
    • Amanda reported that our revised CAHRA Bylaws have been sent to SHRM for final approval.       
    • CAHRA continues to finalize plans for our large HR event on October 25th which will be held at Central Community College.  The event will be free, open to the public and will be of particular interest to small businesses in and around the Columbus area.  The day kicks off with Registration and Breakfast from 8:30-9:00, followed by three 1-hour presentations on various HR topics so that attendees can participate in as much or as little as they choose.  Presentation topics will include Employment Law, Recruitment & Retention, and Benefits, followed by a free lunch and a tour of CCC.  Stay tuned for more details. A free lunch will be available at noon as well as tours of CCC following lunch. 
    • Many CAHRA participants were able to attend all or part of the State HR Conference which was held August 23rd and 24th in La Vista.  CAHRA Members who attended felt the topics and speakers at the Nebraska SHRM Conference were some of the best they’ve seen. 


    LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE REPORTPresented by Scott Messersmith

    • A current Legislative Director Update is attached.  Scott pointed out a few items from the Update.  One being a change to FCRA notices effective September 21, 2018 and the second regarding the overtime exemption limit.  Please see the attached Legislative Committee Report for additional details. 



    • No report. 


      MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT - Teresa Black and Nicole Kracl

    • Teresa reported that nominations for CAHRA Officers will take place at the November meeting.   We will have a vacancy for the office of Vice President.  Contact Teresa, Nicole or any of the current officers if interested. 



    • The September meeting has been approved for CEUs. 
    • In order to retain your certification, members are responsible for entering their own certification credits for SHRM and HRCI.  If you need certification credits, please contact Andra Vandenberg at or   



    PROGRAMS – Jon Rauner & Kara Asmus

    • Jon introduced Jill Colegrove from Colegrove Counseling who presented a very interesting program on “Stress Management”.
